Introduction to Sewing With Knits - February/March, Tuesday Evening

An introduction to sewing with knits for those who know how to use a sewing machine and are ready to progress onto reading patterns and constructing garments.

Classes are held at my home sewing cabin in Cheam, Surrey.  Details and directions are provided with booking confirmation. 

The Project:

During this 5 week course you will make a simple T-Shirt.  We will be using the Wardrobe by me (womenswear) or Thread Theory Designs (menswear) pattern. These t-shirts are easy to make and will teach you about cutting and sewing knitted fabrics. We will also cover how to thread and use and overlocker.  

These patterns are available in the following sizes:

• Wardrobe by Me T-Shirt Pattern: 30 - 54 (Bust 76cm - 124cm)
• Thread Theory Strathcona Pattern: XS - XL (Chest 34" - 44")

Skills Taught:

• Learn difference between knitted and woven fabrics
• How to cut knitted fabric
• How to use an overlocker
• How to use a twin needle
• How to sew knits using a sewing machine
• How to create a neckband
• How to hem a T-Shirt

Dates: Tuesday 25th February - Tuesday 25th March (5 Weeks)

Time: 7:30pm - 9:30pm (2 hours)

Level: Beginner garment-maker.  You should be able to wind a bobbin, thread a machine, do a straight stitch, do a back-stitch, follow a seam allowance.

Price:  £150

Class Size: 4 - 6

• 10 hours of sewing tuition divided across 5, 2-hour lessons with a class size of 4 to 6 students.

• 1.5m Cotton jersey
• Use of all machines and tools

Minimum Class Size:

The minimum class size for this course is 4 participants.  Should this number not be reached, the class will not be able to run.  Flying Bobbins will strive to find a solution, however, in some cases, classes may have to be cancelled due to low numbers.  You will be kept informed at all times and a full refund will be given for any cancelled courses.

Cancellation Policy & Absence:

Full payment for the class shall be taken at point of booking to secure your place.

Should you wish to cancel, please let me know as soon as possible.  Cancellations made less than 3 weeks in advance will be charged at 50%.

If you can't make one of the classes, every effort will be made to accommodate you on another class, however this cannot be guaranteed.  No refund will be given for missed classes.

In the unlikely event that the class cannot go ahead due to teacher absence, alternative arrangements will be made and a range of dates will be offered to the class.  A refund for the missed class will be given where no suitable alternative can be arranged.

Illness:

As we enter the cooler months, it is normal for a few bugs to be doing the rounds. If you are unwell, please do not attend the class, this is for the sake of the other students. A mop-up session will be provided for classed missed due to illness at the end of each term.
